May 4 | The Fabric of Cultures

Thursday, May 4, 2017
10:00am – 6:00pm
Rosenthal Library, President’s Conference Room #2 (Level 5)

A preview of “The Fabric of Cultures: Objects, Memory, Technology”, to be exhibited at the QC Art Center in Fall 2017, the Fabric of Cultures Conference is one of several steps in a research and pedagogical project undertaken by Eugenia Paulicelli and her students at Queens College and the CUNY Graduate Center. The ongoing Fabric of Cultures series explores, in theory and practice, how fibers, fabrics, clothing, and texts tell the stories of individuals and communities across cultures, class, gender, and space. To this end, the Conference’s presentations will investigate the ways in which the materiality of texts and fabrics can ground our memories, aesthetics, political awareness, and activism through use, care, and making.
