Specified Purpose Whole-time Post (Anticipated duration of 2 years)
UCC wishes to appoint an experienced academic to the role of Lecturer in Italian. Reporting to the Head of the Department of Italian, the Lecturer will have expertise in any area of Italian literature or linguistics which would complement current teaching and research in the Department of Italian. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the Department.
Applicants must have completed a PhD before taking up the position and must have native or near-native command of Italian and English. Evidence of a commitment to excellence and innovation in both teaching and research is required. A strong contribution to the research culture of both the Department and the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures will also be expected. The successful candidate will be expected to participate as appropriate in the normal administrative work of the Department and the School.
The Department of Italian at UCC is a vibrant centre of teaching and research across a broad range of areas, including modern and contemporary Italy, as well as Dante, and eighteenth-century Neapolitan intellectual culture, and has an outstanding record in postgraduate research education. We offer courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and are now looking for a highly qualified and motivated lecturer to take up a two-year lectureship from 1 September 2018.

The University, at its discretion, may undertake to make an additional appointment(s) from this competition following the conclusion of the process.
Appointment will be made on the Lecturer Below the Bar Salary Scale, €32,821 – €57,967 (Scale B); €34,625-€55,159 (Scale A).
