Fellowship opportunities with the ACLS, NYPL, and Soros

American Council of Learned Societies invites applications for the Luce/ACLS Dissertation Fellowships in American Art

Seven fellowships of $38,000, with an additional $4,000 as a travel and research allowance, will be awarded to graduate students pursuing research on the history of art and visual culture of the United States, including all aspects of Native American art and who are at any stage of PhD dissertation research or writing.

American Council of Learned Societies invites applications for fellowship program

ACLS invites applications for its fellowship program, which supports research proposals from scholars in all disciplines of the humanities and interpretive social sciences. In the 2024-25 competition cycle, the program will award up to 60 fellowships to scholars across all stages of the scholarly career, with approximately half of this year’s awards to support early-career scholars.  The fellowship awards a $60,000 stipend for a 12-month fellowship. Awards of shorter duration will be prorated at $5,000 per month, with the minimum award set at $30,000. ACLS provides award supplements of between $3,000 to $6,000 for independent scholars, adjunct faculty, and faculty with teaching-intensive roles for costs incurred during the fellowship term, including research support, access to manuscript development workshops, learned society conference attendance, health insurance, or child- or eldercare.

New York Public Library invites applications for 2025-26 Cullman Center Fellowship

Offered through the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers, fellowships will be awarded to 15 scholars and writers—academics, independent scholars, journalists, creative writers (novelists, playwrights, poets), translators, and visual artists—whose work could benefit directly from access to the research collections at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street. The library is one of the world’s preeminent resources for study in anthropology, art, geography, history, languages and literature, philosophy, politics, popular culture, psychology, religion, sociology, sports, and urban studies.  Through the program, fellows will receive a stipend of up to $85,000, the use of an office with a computer, and full access to the library’s physical and electronic resources. Fellows work at the center for the duration of the fellowship term, which runs from September through May, and will give a talk over lunch on his or her current work-in-progress to other fellows and a wide range of invited guests; they may also be asked to take part in other programs at the New York Public Library. Candidates for the fellowship will need to work primarily at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building rather than at other divisions of the library.

Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans invites applications

Each year, the program invests in the graduate education of 30 New Americans—immigrants and children of immigrants—poised to significantly contribute to U.S. society, culture, or their academic field. Fellows receive up to $90,000 in financial support over two years and join a lifelong community of New American Fellows.
